Over 80 students, teachers and officials attended the 3rd Prudential Cup held in Beijing on 20th August. The talented students formed 10 teams and presented the judges with enthusiastic performances ranging from dancing and singing to story-telling and short dramas. All of them brought out the importance of insurance in day-to-day life and the role insurance plays in protecting families and societies.

The judging panel comprised of representatives from Prudential Corporation Asia, the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC), the Ministry of Education (MOE), and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).

The PruCup event is the annual highlight of the China Insurance Education Programme that PCA launched in 2007 as part of its financial literacy initiatives. The programme is run in partnership with the education authorities and it aims to provide junior to high-school students with the basic concepts of financial management and insurance education. To date, more than 10,000 students from 20 schools across the country have benefitted from this programme.

Wang Guogang, Head of the Institute of Finance and Banking of CASS and chairman of the panel of judges said that “In school, students learn about key insurance principles. Through this competition, these concepts come to life and show that our students understand the real value of prudent financial management in their day-to-day life.”

A teacher from Sichuan commended the students for their outstanding performance. “The Prudential Cup was a highly successful event that gives our students valuable knowledge about insurance and promotes creativity and sharing among different schools from across the country.” she said.
