26 November 2013

The Prudence Foundation recently commissioned a White Paper, in cooperation with non-profit organisation, CSR Asia, entitled “Business and Disaster Preparedness: Helping Communities Prepare for Effective Response”. The White Paper was launched at an inaugural forum in Jakarta on 21 November, which was attended by nearly 100 representatives from the private, public and NGO sectors. This aim is to support businesses in helping communities prepare for disasters and to bring together key leaders in the business, humanitarian, and government sector to explore and discuss opportunities for cooperation.

Our Chairman Don Kanak, who is also a trustee of the Prudence Foundation, opened the Forum and outlined the need for business involvement in disaster preparedness in the region. He said: "Prudential has a strong long-term commitment to the health, safety and prosperity of the communities in which we operate. While we continue to contribute to disaster relief efforts as they occur, we believe it is equally important to focus on prevention and preparedness. Communities, businesses, governments and humanitarian organisations all have an important role to play in successful disaster preparedness initiatives. We hope that this White Paper can stimulate discussion and engage more businesses to help communities reduce their human and economic losses when faced with disasters.”

A media conference was held on the sidelines of the Forum, which was very well-attended by Indonesian press, generating further interest in the subject from diverse circles. Pictured are Don Kanak, Richard Welford (Chairman of CSR Asia) and Nini Sumohandoyo (of Prudential Indonesia) addressing the media and giving in-depth one-on-one interviews.
