Throughout Asia, Prudential continues to support communities with creative initiatives that extend beyond offering financial products and services. Through PRUfriends, we undertake a wide variety of activities designed to give something back to the people and markets that have given us so much.
Hong Kong
Over 130 Prudential employees and financial advisors visited more than 720 elderly residents in eight care centers of Helping Hand Hong Kong in February 2008.
BOCI-Prudential formed a team of hikers to participate in The 14th Green Power Hike in 2007 to demonstrate support for Green Power's environmental work. The BOCI-Prudential team managed to complete the 50km route within five hours. Donations raised from this event will be donated to support green education in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong.
India
ICICI Prudential Life's staff participated in the 2007 Mumbai Marathon. The sponsorship raised was donated to help address various issues related to women's cancers, such as breast, cervical and ovarian cancer.
In association with the NGO Desh Seva Samiti, ICICI Prudential Life sponsored an awareness-raising general health and diabetes check-up camp in Bangur Nagar, Mumbai, which was attended by over 250 members of the public.
Indonesia
Prudential continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to the Indonesian community by raising funds for the Indonesian Children Cancer Foundation through its 'Let's heal the children' activities. This is the fourth consecutive year that Prudential has supported the initiative.
After an earthquake jolted the Yogya area in 2006, Prudential donated relief aid and launched a school renovation programme at SMP 1 Bamb-anglipuro, a badly destroyed school in the area. In April 2007, the school building was renovated and Prudential officiated its reopening with members of the school faculty and representatives of the regional educational board later in that year.
Korea
Seventeen staff from PCA ASSET prepared and served free meals to the aged. The programme takes place every two weeks, and each of the volunteers participates once every two months.
Malaysia
Prudential Assurance's agents and staff played their part in the relief efforts for flood victims in the southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia, which was ravaged by torrential rain. The funds raised went towards helping reduce victims' financial burden as well as purchasing new computers and furniture for a school affected by the flood.
Philippines
PRU LIFE UK partnered with the NGO Gawad Kalinga in the Philippines to build the PRU LIFE UK - Felicity Village for the homeless. Over 150 houses will be constructed in ParaƱaque City in Metro Manila over the next two years, and PRU LIFE UK's staff and agents will be actively involved in the project by making donations and contributing their time to help with the construction of the houses during weekends. The initiative will promote a healthy and clean environment for the inhabitants of the PRU LIFE UK - Felicity Village.
Thailand
Prudential initiated Warm Hearts from PRU... for Older People. Over 80 employees participated in the programme to knit 200 scarves for the elderly living in communities in Chiang Mai Province.
Prudential sponsored Thailand Jazz Competition No. 2, organised by Silapakorn University in honour of His Majesty the King's musical talent. The winners - Jazz Pak Nam Pho Band and Quintet-X Band were awarded his Majesty the King's Trophy, certificates and cash prizes.
Vietnam
Prudential sponsored various charitable initiatives of The Association of Poor Patients' Assistance, a branch of the Department of Culture and Information in Ho Chi Minh City. These included scholarships for underprivileged students, financial support for cleft-lip and eye operations, and health check-ups and free medicine for the poor.
